No diagnostic material culture was recovered from the slot fills. The eastern half of the slot cut through an undefined feature 012AC00333, which contained only Roman pot sherds, as well as a Niedermendig lava fragment.

Discussion

The slot was unusual in that its western extent appeared to be defined by a row of post holes, only one of which was well defined. This was 012AC00204, where post packing indicated that a post only 10cm in diameter had been present. This indicates that the slot was part of a fence line, although it was completely truncated both to the west and the east. The fill was a sandy loam (with Munsell colour varying from 19YR 4/3 to 10YR 3/3). The only finds were fragments of burnt daub.

The slot and post holes were cut into chalk, the slot with a V-shaped profile and an irregular base.
